Riding a bicycle is something that many people across the world enjoy doing. Whether you’re cruising the bike paths or going on an all-day adventure out on the dirt trails, your bike will help take you there. Kids bikes are designed for young riders to be able to get out and do the same riding as the adults. There is a full range of bikes from beginner to advanced.
The best age to get a bike for a child is as early as 1.5 to 2.5 years old. Age isn’t always concrete when it comes to when a child is ready to try out a bike. One of the more popular bikes to start kids on when they’re young are balance bikes. These bikes have no pedals and let children balance while scooting around.

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is that it depends. Many children can use a bike for several years while other children can grow like weeds and outgrow a bike within a year or two. You can lift the saddle up on the bike to make pedaling easier as your child grows, but when they max out the seatpost length, it might be time for an upgrade.
Many brands out there make exceptional quality bikes. Brands like Batch and Stacyc make bikes that are great for beginners while other brands like Marin and Rocky Mountain make higher-end mountain bikes that are perfect for aggressive trail riding. Depending on whether your child wants to race or they're more interested in just relaxing on their ride will determine what type of bike they should get.
Only up to three bikes can be compared at once.

We all remember the smile on a child’s face when they experience their first ride. With the right kids' bike, they can share the same passion for cycling that you do and create memories that last a lifetime. At Jenson USA, we believe in equipping young riders for the same adventures adults do, whether that means cruising around the neighborhood or taking on tough trails.
Want to know when to start? Many children are ready to roll as early as 1.5 to 2.5 years old. Instead of going straight to a pedal bike, we often begin with the essential balance bikes. These lightweight bikes have no pedals and allow children to scoot with their feet while learning those core skills—balance and steering. This makes the transition to regular kids bikes much smoother.
Because every child grows differently, the right bike size may not match their age exactly. Here’s what to look for when picking a bike for your child:
Wheel Sizes:
20” Wheeled Kids Bikes - For riders who are 4'0" - 4'5"
24” Wheeled Kids Bikes - For riders who are 4'5" - 4'9"
26” Wheeled Kids Bikes - For riders who are 4'9"+
It happens! Kids grow in their own time, so there’s no set rule for how long a bike will last. Some kids can ride the same bike for years, while others may need a new bike in just a year or two. Luckily, raising the seatpost helps extend use, but eventually, every young rider will need a larger children’s bike.
Important Things to Know Before Buying Bikes for Kids
The most important step: Make sure your little one has a proper Children’s Helmet.
When kids start cycling young, it helps them grow in more ways than one:
Choosing the right kids bike helps your child discover a lifelong love for cycling. From the very first balance bike to trail-ready youth mountain bikes, Jenson USA has the gear to match every stage of their riding journey.
